Why I started the Honest Field Guide® Podcast
In 2018, after a creative brainstorming session with my company’s first full-time employee, I decided to create a space where real stories about entrepreneurship, creativity, and business actually get told. I was tired of the fakery, performative people, gatekeepers. Exhausted by the pull ’em up by the boostrap ridicululousness. There is no overnight success and no one ever finds it by going it alone. I want to pull back the curtain on what it really takes to run a creative business. I’m JinJa Birkenbeuel, host of The Honest Field Guide and serial entrepreneur.
I’m a veteran marketer, with a full service marketing agency Birk Creative, a blog Joy & Glowing, an Americana Band, Utah Carol and a research-based not for profit Journey Of Gratitude.
I want to inspire and educate other entrepreneurs—especially those who, like you and me, have been underestimated or overlooked. I want to document through storytelling, my own evolution—as a founder, strategist, artist, and creator. I promise, I will get the stories, unguarded and fresh.
My show, it’s part mentorship, part therapy, and laughter. I started my show because I wanted to know things. When I was a kid, I got in trouble a lot by my teachers for talking too much in class and also challenging their status quo. But now, I am helping to shift the culture around creative work—and I am grateful to still be here.
